Makimoto Early Careers – AI & Engineering Opportunities

At Makimoto, we are building an open-core AI initiative focused on advancing conversational AI systems for the Asia-Pacific region. Developed in close collaboration with Toku’s AI teams, Makimoto brings production-grade AI capabilities — including speech recognition and AI agents — into developer-facing platforms, open-source projects, and community-driven innovation.

We are opening a number of early-career opportunities for individuals who want to work close to real systems from the start — contributing to tools, APIs, prototypes, and developer workflows that are actively evolving. This is an opportunity to learn by building, working alongside experienced engineers while contributing to systems that are already in use.

About the Opportunity

This is a unified application for early-career roles across the Makimoto initiative.

Rather than applying to a single fixed position, you will be considered across a range of roles depending on your interests, strengths, and background. As part of your application, you will be able to indicate which areas you are most interested in. These roles span:

What you will be doing

Depending on your interests and strengths, you may have the opportunity to:

• Engineering & Development
  Contribute to backend services, APIs, and tools that support AI systems and developer platforms
  Work with modern frameworks and cloud-based systems to build and extend functionality
  Support integration of AI capabilities such as speech recognition and conversational systems

• Prototyping & Product Exploration
  Build prototypes and proof-of-concept applications that demonstrate real-world AI use cases
  Experiment with new ideas and translate concepts into working systems
  Contribute to early-stage features where requirements are evolving

• AI & Applied Systems
  Work with NLP, speech recognition, and LLM-based systems in real-world applications
  Support experimentation, evaluation, and improvement of AI-driven features

• Developer Experience & Community
  Help create tools, examples, and documentation for developers
  Contribute to community initiatives and developer engagement

We’d love to hear from you if you have

• Technical Foundations
  A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, AI, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  Programming experience in Python, JavaScript, or similar languages
  Understanding of software development fundamentals and APIs

• Interest in AI Systems
  Exposure to AI/ML concepts such as NLP, speech, or LLMs (academic or project-based experience is sufficient)
  Curiosity about how AI systems are applied in real-world scenarios

• Ways of Working
  A proactive mindset and willingness to learn by doing
  Comfort working in environments where not everything is fully defined
  Strong communication and collaboration skills
