Job description
At Toku, we create bespoke cloud communications and customer engagement solutions to reimagine customer experiences for enterprises. We provide an end-to-end approach to help businesses overcome the complexity of digital transformation and deliver mission-critical CX through cloud communication solutions. Toku combines local strategic consulting expertise, bespoke technology, regional in-country infrastructure, connectivity, and global reach to serve the diverse needs of enterprises operating at scale. Headquartered in Singapore, Toku supports customers across APAC and beyond, with a growing footprint across global markets.
This is a senior leadership role responsible for elevating Toku’s infrastructure capability across cloud and on-prem environments, with AWS at the core. You will lead the infrastructure function, improve engineering and deployment maturity, and establish scalable, reliable systems and processes. This role requires strong technical credibility alongside leadership, enabling you to guide architectural direction and enforce best practices across the team. You will thrive in this role if you have previously built and operated robust infrastructure environments and can now scale that experience across teams.
Job requirements
What you will be doing
Infrastructure leadership & team management: Lead and develop the infrastructure function, with responsibility for managing cloud, network, and internal IT teams, providing direction, performance management, and technical leadership.
Organisational structure & capability building: Shape and evolve the infrastructure organisation, improving team structure, role clarity, and technical capability across cloud, networking, and systems functions.
Cloud & platform oversight (AWS core): Provide technical oversight of AWS infrastructure, guiding architecture decisions across services such as EC2, ECS/EKS, VPC, IAM, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, ALB/NLB, and CloudWatch to ensure scalable and reliable systems.
Infrastructure maturity & process improvement: Drive improvements in infrastructure practices, including Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, and ensuring consistent, repeatable deployments across dev, UAT, and production environments.
CI/CD & deployment reliability: Improve CI/CD processes and deployment workflows, addressing gaps between environments and ensuring stable, predictable releases into production.
Engineering collaboration & solution alignment: Partner closely with engineering teams to translate application requirements into robust infrastructure solutions, shifting towards proactive infrastructure design and ownership.
Reliability, scalability & performance: Ensure high availability, scalability, and performance of infrastructure systems, implementing best practices around redundancy, auto-scaling, and system resilience.
Incident management & operational excellence: Oversee incident response processes, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement of system reliability and operational performance.
Cross-region support & coordination: Support a distributed engineering environment, ensuring infrastructure effectively supports teams across multiple regions, including collaboration with teams in the Netherlands time zone.
Vendor & stakeholder management: Manage relationships with infrastructure vendors and internal stakeholders, ensuring alignment on priorities, delivery, and service quality.
Technical leadership & mentorship: Provide hands-on guidance where needed, mentoring engineers and setting technical direction based on prior experience building scalable infrastructure systems.
We’d love to hear from you if you have
Leadership experience (core requirement): Proven experience leading and managing infrastructure, cloud, or platform teams, with the ability to scale teams and improve performance.
Infrastructure background (core requirement): Strong experience across cloud infrastructure, networking, systems, and hybrid environments (AWS and on-prem).
AWS expertise (core requirement): Solid hands-on background with AWS, including experience working with services such as EC2, ECS/EKS, VPC, IAM, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, ALB/NLB, and CloudWatch in production environments.
Infrastructure as Code (core requirement): Hands-on experience with Terraform (or similar IaC tools), including implementing reusable infrastructure across multiple environments.
CI/CD & deployment practices: Experience designing or improving CI/CD pipelines and addressing deployment inconsistencies across development, testing, and production environments.
Cloud architecture & scalability: Experience designing or overseeing scalable, highly available infrastructure systems, with strong understanding of performance and resilience patterns.
DevOps mindset: Strong understanding of DevOps practices, automation, and infrastructure delivery processes.
Systems & development awareness: Exposure to application development environments (e.g. Node.js or similar) with the ability to understand application requirements and support infrastructure accordingly.
Process & governance: Proven ability to introduce and enforce infrastructure processes, standards, and operational discipline across teams.
Incident management: Strong experience with incident response, root cause analysis, and improving operational reliability.
Cross-functional collaboration: Experience working closely with engineering teams to support product and platform requirements.
Global environment experience: Experience working with distributed teams across multiple regions or time zones.
Cybersecurity exposure (nice to have): Exposure to cybersecurity operations, infrastructure security, or cloud security practices would be advantageous.
Location: This role is to be based in Kuala Lumpur – Malaysia or, Bangalore – India, operating on a mostly remote basis, with office visits as needed
